Help with laptop speakers?

I bought a laptop that had speakers come with it, as in they were built into it, but then for Christmas i got laptop speakers that work through the USB port. Now i can only play sound through the speakers, and those that are built into the laptop no longer function, help? The laptop is an Advent 5312, if it helps.
