Is this cheating or messed up in anyway?

Okay a friend of mine had been talking to this girl for about 2 or 3 weeks. They were on the brink of going out. One day my friend comes over and I start helping by talking to this girl by making him seem awesome or whatever. But then one day she says you know I like so and so but I think I like you more. This is when I freaked out because I was starting to like her but my friend had her first. So anyway I talk to him about it and he is like yeah I don't care about her or anything so do whatever. Then the next day she is crying because he told her that he had feelings and she didn't feel that way about him. I feel terrible and he is pissed at me but in the end did I do anything wrong? Sorry for all the drama but it's been bugging me.
